I Choose Local

One flat of beautiful, Canadian-grown*, 100-mile* peaches left. Time to get to work.

* It matters.

Yes, it DOES matter.

I still remember when the government paid the farmers to tear out orchards here.

And now that land, some of the BEST farm land in the country, is covered in houses.

One last thing - please tell me you are making peach pie. I LOVE peach pie!

I remember a year or two, it was all over the news about the closing of the last cannery down your way. It'll all come back to bite us one day (some would say, it already has).

No pie but the kids'll be taking peach muffins to school this week.

It took me a while to figure out what the 100 mile thing meant. It's early still...

(I got it now, don't worry).

Can't wait to see what you're going to do with all those peaches though.

Did you know that the best produce grown in our country is exported to other countries? Weird non? So if I want to buy the best Dutch tomatoes I have to shop in Germany or so. Makes you wonder... ;-)
Peach muffins? YUM

Sorry Mara, sometimes I forget I have an 'international audience'. (Alright, alright, stop laughing)

Carolina - is that true? Maybe it's a romantic vision of Europe but I can't imagine that you don't support the local economy better than we do in North America. (Unless you're talking about exporting dropjes to Canada then obviously it should be the best ones)

It is true. But I don't know about the dropjes ;-)
