Out To The Berry Patch

I love this time of year. It's the season of picking. Today I took the day off work and loaded up on big juicy strawberries. I picked for about two hours and came away with the treasure below. The berries were a little hit and miss. I think all the rain we've had in the last little bit is finally having an effect on them. They seemed to be spoiling in small patches. But, just when you thought you weren't going to find enough to fill the basket, you hit the motherload and on you went. This afternoon, I'm making jam. Drippy jam, we like to call it. Nolan will be happy.

UPDATED SATURDAY, JUNE 26: Well, didn't get the jam done Friday but I'm happy to report that on Saturday I put up 12 jars of bright red strawberry jam. The same bright red hue, coincidentally, as the kids' stained faces. Those strawberries were good.

YAY!

I have the feeling I'm going to completely miss out on the strawberries this year.

Nah. The everbearings are available all summer. One Saturday, you'll just have to come up here and we'll hit the Farmers Market. Cammy will be thrilled. Just thrilled.

Where's your post about the jam you made?

Hey - you got the same jam pan as us, how cool is that!?
Sharon has made gooseberry jam and blackcurrant jam. Last year i tried to make plum and ended up with 37 jars of plum syrup. I'll stick to growing things.

Oh, my maslin pan! I adore my maslin pan. Quite a story about that maslin pan. Won't bore you with the details, but my dear brother-in-law of British extraction, was home to England for a couple weeks last summer. They're really hard to find here so he picked it up and shipped it out to me. He's a good guy.

37 jars of plum syrup, eh. Does it go with anything?
